Dichlorobis dimethyl sulfide platinum II

This is a modified and improved version of that given in the literature.3 All operations should be performed using standard Schlenk techniques under an atmosphere of dry N2.8 All Schlenk glassware should be flame dried under vacuum prior to use. All glassware must be cooled to 0°C. 

A 500-mL Schlenk tube equipped with a magnetic stirring bar and rubber septum is charged with finely powdered cis/tra .s-[PtCl2(SMe2)2] (3.90 g, 11.0 mmol) suspended in dry diethyl ether (160 mL). The ratio of the cis/trans isomers is not important. Indeed either pure cis- or trans-[PtCl2(SMe2)2]
