Dicationic crosslinking agent

It was previously shown [4] that a series of dicationic crosslinking agents (Figure 4) could be prepared and isolated. 

All the dicationic crosslinking agents yielded crosslinked resins on addition of redox initiators. 

Because of the spontaneous polymerization of quaternized 4-VP the isolation of a dicationic crosslinking agent was not successful with any a, dihalides investigated including dibromomethane. The latter, when reacted with two molecules of dimethyl-amino ethylmethacrylate (DEMA), yielded pure V indicating that the second quaternization was prevented by the proximity of the positive charge.
