Benzylpyrimidine sulfonamides are based on the combination of a sulfonamide with trimethoprim or tetroxoprim. Chemically, trimethoprim is a 2,4-diamino-5-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)pyrimidine and has the following structural formula.
