Dewatering surface slops

The water content in surface slops is lowest with oil drums and highest with pump-induced water circulation systems. Nevertheless, some dynamic skimmers such as the autostables can draw off a thin enough water layer to be fairly rich in oil. 

Surface slops must have a low water content in order to be sent to the refinery s slop tanks. If there are no oil drum or disc collectors (often a heavy investment), the oil compartment attached to the separators and usually fed by gravity from the collectors must be set up and operated rationally.
