Erpenbeck s linearized analysis of the detonation equations for ideal gases predicts that certain cases will be unstable to inflnitesimal longitudinal perturbations. Fickett and Wood have used the method of characteristics with sharp shocks to describe the time dependent flow and found agreement with Erpenbeck s results. [Pg.17]
