Determination of surfactant concentration by H-NMR

The beauty of the above method is that the concentration of individual components in a complex mixture (e.g. a detergent formulation) can be calculated so long as the corresponding proton peaks can be resolved in the H-NMR spectrum. 

Note that TMS must never be used in the above method because it is volatile, and so its concentration in solution can never be known accurately.
