Dermatobia hominis

The American warble fly, Dermatobia hominis, is a species that attacks humans. Adults produce mainly n-saturated alkanes and various mono- and dimethylalkanes with 21 11 carbon atoms. Females produce more n-tricosane and n-pentacosane than males, which produce more CHCs with at least 29 carbon atoms. Olfactometer tests show a reciprocal attraction of females and males to the extract of the other sex, and suggest that CHCs are used for sexual discrimination (Gomes and Trigo, 2008). [Pg.331]
