Imipramine hydrochloride tablets 10 and 25 mg. Adult dose 75-300 mg daily in divided doses (depression). 

Certain tricyclic compounds are found to be powerful stimulants, or antidepressants, to the central nervous system. Depressed individuals may respond with an elevation of mood, increased physical activity, mental alertness, and an improved appetite. Imipramine and amitriptyline hydrochlorides are good examples. 

Desipramine is the principle metabolite of imipramine after demethylation and shows comparatively high selectivity for NAT. It is available as hydrochloride salt tablets and 100-200 mg are usually given in the treatment of depression.
