Denture Impact Resistance

The improvement of impact resistance in dentures has received attention because unpredictable failures can occur at inconvenient times. Partial grafting of acrylic pol3nners to butadiene polymers... [Pg.318]

Denture base materials consist primarily of suspension-polymer--ized methyl methacrylate or copolymers. These are dispersed in a monomer usually containing a cross-linking agent. Suitable dyes, pigments, U.V.-stabilizers, and active free radical initiators are incorporated. The beads may contain residual benzoyl peroxide. To enhance the impact resistance of denture bases, additives similar to those used to improve the impact resistance of PVC may also be added to the polymer phase of the system. [Pg.340]

The defects in the material s structure may have a negative impact on denture s mechanical resistance. Complete dentures defects can initiate cracks that are responsible for their failure before the expected lifetime. [Pg.276]
