Density of mixtures

A second order liquid phase reaction, 2A B, is carried out in aqueous solution. Starting at 100 F, the mixture reacts until it reaches 250 F. Thereafter water evaporates so that the temperature remains at 250. Data are weight of batch = 1000 lbs Ca0 — 0.1 lbmol/cuft molecular weight of A = 100 density of mixture = 62 lb/cuft... 

Experimental. Viscosities. The absolute viscosities in centipoises (cp.) for several amide-water systems at 25 °C. were obtained using calibrated Ubbelohde viscometers and calculated from -q = p[Kt — L/t where p is density of mixture, and K and L are instrument constants. The results, plotted against the mole fraction of water, are shown in Figures 1 and 8. 

It is obvious that the polymer created by the addition of the commercial size exhibits a monotonic decrease in Tg. This indicates that the silanes and other ingredients in the sizing are acting to reduce the crosslink density of mixtures. This is not surprising since the silanes present in commercial size usually contain a chemical group which is reactive with the matrix constituents. 

Optimize bulk density of mixture of three filler fractions. Xi-fraction 0 to 5 mm X2-fraction 5 to 10 mm and X3-fraction 10 to 20 mm.
