Demonstration Projects. Commercial and demonstration projects under way include a 150 T/D coal gasification unit at the Ruhrchemie Chemical Plant Complex in Oberhausen-Holten, West Germany (5 ) which has been in operation for over a year. This research and development demonstration plant is jointly funded by Ruhrchemie A.G., Ruhrkohle A.G. and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Gaskombinat Schwarze Pumpe (GSP) coal gasification demonstration project in former East Germany consumes 600 t/d (dry basis) of brown coal to produce 1.9 million scf/hr (50,000 Nm /h) of medium-Btu town gas and chemical synthesis gas (49, 50). (Section 5 discusses the GSP coal gasification technology in more detail.)... 

The High Temperature Winkler (HTW) based IGCC is called the KoBra project. The HTW demonstration project at the Goldenberg location in Hiirth, Germany will consume 3,600 t/d (dry basis) of brown coal to generate 355 MW (gross) of electricity. (This demonstration is separate from the HTW synthesis gas project. Section 5 discusses the HTW process in each plant in greater detail.)... 

Germany - has been involved in demonstrating high temperature fuel cells (MCFC, SOFC) for stationary applications over the past decade. The national ZIP program nc udes projects specifically related to fuel cells, such as programs for the development and demonstration of fuel cells for residential applications (2-5 kW PEM). The ZIP program concentrates on further development and demonstration of six 250 kW MCFC block power plants and the 125 kW SOFC block power plant.
