Draper s greatest fame perhaps derives from his contributions to early photography. Although the first real photograph was reported in 1827, it was a very poor image. The first really useful photography was based upon a technique developed by Louis-Jacques-Mande Daguerre (1789-1851) and publicly announced in 1839. [Pg.489]

Through further optical and chemical processes that need not be described here, a realistic portrayal of the scene is eventually obtained. The process is termed photography ( light-writing ).
