Cydo-octene

E, evaluated from that of the adduct 88 is higher than that of (Fj-cydo-octene 38E obtained under the comparable conditions, and is sensitive to the solvent polarity and reaction temperature. Upon sensitization with tetra-(—)-bornyl 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate in hexane at — 80 °C, the ee of 36E goes up to 77% ee, which is the highest value reported for the enantiodifferentiating photosensitized isomerization to-date. 

A brief report of the irradiation of naphthalene with trans-cydo-octene suggests (without evidence) that a 1,3-cycloadduct (57) is involved as an intermediate in the isomerization of the cyclo-octene. 

Reaciiom wtA ntkeius. ( jN> and AlCli (1 1-1) react with cydohexene in CH. to give after neutralization 1 and 2 in about equal amounts. A simitar reaction is observed with cyclopentene. However, in the reaction with cir-cydo-octene. the aziiidine 3 t isolated in 47% yield. These reactioos probably involve an aziridtnium-AKT, complex.
