Cydohexene oxide yields on treatment with methyLmagne j uru iodide and several other Grignard reagents (Eq. B62) the corresponding alkyl cyclopentyl carbinols, and in certain cases some fra s-2-halo-cyclohex nols as well, - 10. 

The title compound, [8-14C]carbovir, 184, a promising anti-AIDS drug182, inhibiting the infectivity and replication of HIV virus at concentrations of approximately 200-400-fold below its toxic concentrations, has been labelled with 14C by treating183 a solution of triethyl [14C] orthoformate in dry chloroform with ds- [4-(2,5-diamino-6-chloro-4-pyrimidinyl)amino]-2-cyclopentyl carbinol 185 and hydrolysis of the crude 186 with 2 N sodium hydroxide (equation 71).
