Cyclohexane, axial bonds 1,3-diaxial interactions

The three upper axial hydrogens in cyclohexane are termed cis to each other likewise the three lower axial hydrogens are mutually cis. These cis relationships are at the origin of the phrase fcis 1,3-diaxial interaction that is used in appropriate 1,3-disubstituted cyclohexanes (Chapter 6). It may be helpful to insert an imaginary C(l)-C(3) bond to confirm with the aid of a model that the dihedral angle is 0°. [Pg.11]
