Cycloalkenes selenium dioxide

Ethers (32) and peroxides (33) are seen as by-products in the catalytic selenium dioxide oxidatimt of cycloalkenes, and Aese materials can predominate in the case of small rings. Addition of hydroquinone to the reaction mixtures suppresses their formation and consequently a free radical pathway has been proposed (Scheme 8).
