Current Maintenance Practice on Fishing Vessels

The voyage duration of the vessel depends solely on the success of the catch. Hence, the vessel will stay at the fishing grounds as long as it is possible to maximise the catch. Should the vessel suffer any breakdown during this period, the vessel s crew will attempt to carry out 

Limited amount of spares carried on board the vessel. 

Limited number of tools available to carry out the repairs. 

Rough weather conditions (especially for small vessels). 

Available manpower on board the vessel may not be sufficient to carry out major repairs.
