Adsorption of a condensed 1-hydroxy-adamantane layer at the Hg elec-trode/(Na2S04 or NaF) solution interface has been studied as a function of temperature by Stenina et al. [174]. Later, Stenina etal. [175] have determined adsorption parameters and their temperature dependence for a two-dimensional condensation of adamantanol-1 at a mercury electrode in Na2S04 solutions. They have also studied coadsorption of halide (F , Cl , Br ) anions and 1-adamantanol molecules on Hg electrode [176]. More recently, Stenina etal. [177] have described a new type of an adsorption layer comprising organic molecules of a cage structure condensed at the electrode/solution interface. This phenomenon was discovered for adsorption of cubane derivatives at mercury electrode. 

It has been shown that lithiation with lithium amides can also be regioselective (see 2-21).277 In the case of the cubane derivative 30, a saturated unactivated position was regio-selectively lithiated.278... 

Cubane derivatives, (IV), prepared by Pajouhesh (6) were effective as metabotropic glutamate receptor agonists or antagonists and used in treating neurological disorders. 

In subsequent investigations (2,3) cubane derivatives, (I), of the current invention were prepared and are described. 

No Favorskii rearrangement products are produced when a-halocyclopentanones are treated with base, and products of aldol, substitution and dehydrohalogenation reactions are produced. However, when an a-halocyclopentanone is part of certain condensed systems, cubane derivatives may be obtained (see Section 3.7.3.5). 

Rearrangements of strained o-bonds (see Silver fluoroborate, 3,250). Paquette et al have now examined the Ag+-catalyzed rearrangement of the less strained reco-cubane derivatives. Treatment of the endo,endo-diesttr (1) with a solution of anhydrous silver perchlorate resulted in quantitative and stereospecific conversion to the endo,endo-tetracyclo[3.3.0.02 8.04 6]octane derivative (2). In like manner, the endo,exo-isomer (3)... 

The rotational strengths of the twistbrendane 44, brexane 45 and of the cubane derivatives 46-48 also are smaller than those of twistane and 2,7-twistadiene. The circular dichroisms of the twistanones and twistanediones have been investigated (Table 6).

Using urea-hydrogen peroxide with trifiuoroacetic anhydride cubane derivatives can undergo tris-Bayer Villiger reactions in good yield. This reaction can be accomplished with the use of MCPBA, however, the reaction was not successful when magnesium monoperoxyphthalate hexahydrate (MMPP) was used as the oxidation reagent. 

The MFejS4 cubanes derived from these syntheses have been extensively studied and their chemistry reviewed in depth. The most biologically significant aspect of these clusters lies in their structure by original X g32,44,45,63 crystallogTaphlc criteria, the local MFcjSj (M = Mo,...

Cubane (CsH8), homocubane (C9H10) and 1,8-bishomocubane pentacy-clo[6.2.0.6. 0 ]decane (C10H12) are known to isomerize readily in the presence of silver ion to the related cuneane derivatives (4). The inability to calculate elaborated three-membered ring compounds accurately does not allow a quantitative estimation of the relative stabilities of these isomers to be obtained computationally.
