Expiry date, creams

As Daktacort cream contains hydrocortisone, a mild steroid, its use is rarely associated with side-effects unlike the potent and very potent steroids. The product is generally applied once or twice daily for 1 week. It should be discarded once the expiry date has elapsed. Daktacort is only available as cream or ointment. 

Extemporaneous preparations, such as creams that are prepared in the pharmacy, have an expiry date of 4 weeks. The creams can be stored at room temperature. 

Select tube of cream, remembering to check the expiry date and taking care that the cream and not the ointment has been selected (packaging of different forms may be very similar). As 1 X op has been requested, the smallest pack size (30 g) should be supplied. 

According to national legislation the label mentions the dosage form (eye cream or eye ointment), the route of administration (ocular use), the intended use, the storage conditions, the expiry date and, for multidose containers, the beyond-use date after which the opened preparation must not be used. This period should not exceed 4 weeks. If necessary the label also bears warnings and mentions that the contents should be brought to room temperature before administration if the tube is stored in the refrigerator.
