Crataegus orientalis

Urinary tract Crataegus orientalis contains flavonoids and oligomeric procyanthins as its main active constituents. A multisystem hypersensitivity reaction and progressive acute renal failure has been associated with consumption of this plant [43 ]. [Pg.993]

A 68-year-old man developed weakness, fatigue, difficulty in breathing, reduced urine output, and epistaxis after eating 1 or 2 kg of raw Crataegus orientalis and drinking five cups of tea made from its leaves. He developed acute renal failure with moderate metabolic acidosis and fluid overload and hemodialysis was performed. A renal biopsy showed acute tubulointerstitial nephritis. [Pg.993]
