Using these formulas, the slip gradient can be related to the aspects of the displacement profile. For example, Fig. 6 compares the vertical displacement profile from a shallow imbedded crack to an equivalent dislocation. Crack models avoid the strong fault-tip singularities associated with dislocation models and the associated effects on the seafloor displacement field.
