Coupling of Oxidases with Non-Redox Enzymes

In cases where an oxidizing enzyme is coupled with a second, non-redox enzyme, obviously, only the oxidizing component needs to be considered in terms of electron transfer cofactor regeneration. 

A liquid membrane bioreactor was developed as a means of encapsulation for a multi-enzyme system incorporating an oxidation and carbohydrate cleavage, demonstrated using a-glucosidase and glucose oxidase in the conversion of maltose to gluconic acid  

Clearly, in such systems, the nature and stability of the liquid membranes is a critical issue [57].
