Population anaiysis methods of assigning charges rely on the LCAO approximation and express the numbers of electrons assigned to an atom as the sum of the populations of the AOs centered at its nucleus. The simplest of these methods is the Coulson analysis usually used in semi-empirical MO theory. This analysis assumes that the orbitals are orthogonal, which leads to the very simple expression for the electronic population of atom i that is given by Eq. (53), where Natomic orbitals centered... [Pg.391]

Film coefficients for the boiling of liquids other than water have been investigated. Coulson and McNelly [Trans. In.st. Chem. Eng., 34, 247 (1956)] derived the following relation, which also correlated the data of Badger and coworkers [Chem. Metall. Eng., 46, 640 (1939) Chem. Eng., 61(2), 183 (1954) and Trans. Am. Jnst. Chem. Eng., 33, 392 (1937) 35, 17 (1939) 36, 759 (1940)] on water ... [Pg.1044]

The Dorr agitator (Coulson and Richardson, loc. cit.) consolidates in one unit the principles of the thickener and the Pachuca tank. Resembling a rake-equipped thickener, it differs in that the rake is driven by a hollow shaft through which the solids-liquid suspension is lifted and circulated by an air stream. The rake moves the pulp to the center, where it can be entrained by the air stream. The unit may be operated batchwise or continuously. [Pg.1675]

There will also be heat loss from tire substrate due to convection cuiTents caused by the teirrperamre differential in the suiTounding gas phase, but this will usually be less than the radiation loss, because of the low value of the heat transfer coefficient, / , of gases. The heat loss by this mechanism, Qc, can be calculated, approximately, by using tire Richardson-Coulson equation... [Pg.82]
