Condensers configurations

The several possible condenser configurations will be described. They are shown on Figure 8.14. 

To operate SD at peq 0 j the condenser temperature Tco has to be smaller than given in the table as T < (how much smaller depends on the condenser configuration, i.e. to condense the vapor on the surface with a minimum of flow resistance and interference with permanent gas and water molecules). For Tco < in the table it is assumed that the equilibrium pressure of the ice on the condenser surface needs to be only 10% below peq 01.

In Group 8A(I8), all of the elements have the condensed configuration [noble gas] ns np. Consistent with their filled energy levels, all of these elements are monatomic gases that are extremely unreactive. 

Check Be sure the sum of the superscripts (electrons) in the full electron configuration equals the atomic number, and that the number of valence electrons in the condensed configuration equals the number of electrons in the partial orbital diagram. 

Even though there are several exceptions, in general, the condensed ground-state electron configuration for the elements in each [Pg.736]

In Eq. 13.7, t/e and Uc are the larger contributions however, Ug and Uvdw have a pivotal role to determine the surface profile of the water in the condensed configuration.
