Concept of the Polymer Compound

A polymer compound, also known as high molecular weight polymer, is a macromolecule composed of one or more structural units that are connected by covalent bonds. The relative molecular mass of the polymer compound (hereinafter referred to as molecular weight) is generally 10,000 Daltons or more. [Pg.3]

For example, polypropylene is made from propylene structural units that are connected to each other. [Pg.3]

A polymer with only one type of monomer is referred to as a homopolymer, such as polypropylene, poly(vinyl chloride), poly(methyi methacrylate), and so on. A polymer with two or more types of monomers is called a copolymer. For example, ethylene-propylene copolymer is synthesized via ethylene and [Pg.3]

Random copolymers with two structural units arranged in no particular order [Pg.4]

Alternating copolymers with regular alternation of two structural units [Pg.4]
