Compressed air energy storage CAES

Holden, P., Moen, D., and DeCorso, M., Alabama Electric Cooperative Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) Plant Improvements, ASME Paper No. 2000-GT-0595. [Pg.111]

Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) A storage system that directs surplus electricity to a compressor, which pumps air deep into layers of porous sandstone underneath dense, almost impermeable shale. The sandstone expands, trapping the air, which is later released. As the air rushes upward, it fires a turbine on the surface, thereby producing energy. [Pg.16]
