In general, increasing the chain length of an n-alkane or n-alkyl substituted benzene reduces its solubility in a given surfactant solution. While the presence of unsaturation or cyclic structures tends to increase solubility, branching appears to have little or no effect. More complicated additive structures fail to behave in such an orderly fashion.
