Colour assimilation

Although the adjustment of model phytoplankton concentrations takes places every month, not all shallow water locations are affected by it every month. Since MERIS is an optical sensor, light availability limits its ability to measure ocean colour. Hence solar angle and clouds determine, whether assimilation is possible or not. The number of months in which is assimilation is possible is higher for locations close to the equator than locations at higher latitudes (Figure 2. lb)). [Pg.25]

Within the framework of the Generation-Description theory (16), each structure is formally assimilated to a graph whose nodes represent non-hydrogen atoms and whose edges represent the bonds between these atoms (Figure 5.1). This graph is chromatic, i.e., coloured by the nature of atoms and bonds. It contains two components ... [Pg.204]

Today an indicator device is expected to assimilate the data rapidly and display them clearly, often in colour. It also should be compact, consume a minimum of electrical power, and require only low-level driving voltages. All these requirements are met by liquid crystal displays. [Pg.169]

Further, as clearly indicated by its name, the unique phenomenon in photosynthesis is not the assimilation of carbon dioxide, nor the synthesis of sugars but the utilisation for these processes of the radiant energy of the sun. This means that photosynthesis involves, in contradistinction to the other metabolic processes so far mentioned, certain photochemical reactions, insensitive to temperature and mediated through a photocatalytic system. The chlorophyll pigments organised in special cellular structures called chloroplasts represent this system and give to photosynthetic tissues their green colour. [Pg.14]
