Figure 14-41 illustrates a couple of power capacity styles of gas turbine generators for providing the required hot gas to drive a power turbine connected to mechanical applications such as power generation, gas compression, cogeneration, oil pumping, and others. 

Worldwide over 150 demonstration plants have been installed. These represent around 40 to 50 MW of electrical generating capacity. Nearly 75% is installed in Japan, over 15% in North America, and 9% in Europe. The U.S.-based International Fuel Cells (IFC) and its partner Toshiba are responsible for producing over 70%, Fuji over 25%, and Mitsubishi about 2% (WFCC analysis). These phosphoric acid systems are operating in real world commercial situations and have clearly demonstrated their suitability for on-site cogeneration. 

It must be observed that generation during the harvesting season is an advantage for local utilities because that is the dry season, when reservoirs of hydro plants present the lowest levels and around 95% of Brazilian electric installed capacity is from hydroelectric origin.However utilities do not seem too much interested in electricity purchase from cogenerators.
