Codonocarpus australis alkaloids

Other than several alkaloids of unknown structure, the spermidine alkaloid codonocarpine (104) and its /V-methyl derivative (105, alkaloid IV) were isolated from the bark of the Australian Codonocarpus australis (94).

Another alkaloid related to lunarine, codonocarpine (24), has been isolated recently from Codonocarpus australis. Although this plant has been placed in the family Phytolacca-ceae, its true affinities are not known with certainty (Fig. 28.12) (Guggisberg and Hesse, 1983). Isocodonocarpine (25) has been isolated from Capparis decidua (Capparida-ceae) (Ahmad et al., 1989).
