Cloning enzymes, proteinase

Hansson L, Stromqvist M, Backman A, Wallbrandt P, Carlstein A, Egelrud T. Cloning, expression, and characterization of stratum corneum chymotryptic enzyme. A skin-specific human serine proteinase. J Biol Chem 1994 269 19420-19426. [Pg.70]

Less information is available on other classes of protozoal proteinase. Aspartic proteinases have been described only among sporozoa. Two genes encoding distinct aspartic proteinases have been cloned from P. falciparum (62,63) and one from Eimeria acervulina (64). Metalloproteinases have been detected in a number of species but the only enzyme which has been well characterized is the promastigote surface proteinase (PSP or gp63) found in all species of Leishmania (65) (see Chapter 11). Serine proteinases have been detected in trypanosomatids, in which the enzymes appear to be cytosolic (66), Plasmodium species (67-69) and E. tenella (70). [Pg.81]
