Tobramycin Clindamycin

To prevent development of resistance and promote synergy, inhaled tobramycin or colistin is usually added to an oral fluoroquinolone for P. aeruginosa coverage.1,3 Methicillin-sensitive S. aureus (MSSA) may be treated with oral amoxiciUin-clavulanic acid, dicloxacillin, first- or second-generation cephalosporins, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, or clindamycin, depending on sensitivity. Likewise, methiciUin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) may be treated with oral trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, clindamycin, minocycline, or linezolid. H. influenzae often produces... 

Case Conclusion Because the etiology of intra-abdominal infections is most often polymicrobial (gram-negative and anaerobic bacteria) and the patient has an allergy to penicillin, FD can be treated empirically with tobramycin and metronidazole or clindamycin. This regimen provides adequate empiric coverage of the most noteworthy pathogens associated with intra-abdominal infections.

Three cases of acute renal failure have been tentatively attributed to the use of gentamicin with clindamycin, and another report identified the combination as a risk factor for nephrotoxicity. However, other reports note no increased nephrotoxicity when gentamicin or tobramycin was given with clindamycin. 

The interaction between a number of antibiotics (oxytetracycline, tetracycline, tobramycin, clindamycin, cefamandole, bacitracin and chloramphenicol) and surgical metallic materials (316L stainless steel, Co-Cr and commercially pure Ti) has shown that only oxytetracycline exerts an effect on the electrochemical response. For all the materials this antibiotic shifted the corrosion potential of abraded surfaces in the noble direction, as seen in Figure 9.8.
