Cleavage of Si— Me Bonds in Carbosilanes

Cleavage by H2PtCl6 has been demonstrated by Benkeser [156] and extended by Hengge to the Si-chlorination of methylated polysilanes [157]. 

Calas reported on the formation. of Me3SiCl by reaction of SiMc4 with ICl [158] 

Common to all these reactions is the fact that an Si—Me group can be converted to a Si—Cl group. 

Apart from the formation of HMeSiCl and HMe SiCl only such Si-chlorinated derivatives arise, containing one chlorine substituent on every Si atom. These 1,3,5-trisilacyclohexane derivatives react with LiAlH producing their SiH-containing analogues for a more convenient work-up and identification [159].
