Cleavage of Phthalamide under Mild Alkaline pH

Product characterization studies on the cleavage of phthalamide and related compounds under mild alkaline pH ( 9) reveal the net reaction, which is expressed by Equation 2.3. 

Equation 2.3 is a function of pH of the reaction medium. The mechanistic details of the reaction expressed by Equation 2.3 show that the reverse reaction, (k -step), may not be catalyzed by a specific base.
