Cis-1,4-diacetoxylation

The stereocontrol associated with palladium-catalyzed 1,4-diacetoxylation is useful in synthetic applications. An example is the cis- 1,4-diacetoxylation of 5-carbomethoxycyclohexa-1,3-diene and subsequent transformation of the diacetate to shikimic acid [Eq.(38)] [51b].
