Old fustic from the heartwood of Chlorophora tinctoria (Moraceae) of central America and young fustic from Rhus cotinus (Anacardiaceae) were used in the middle of the 17th century to produce a range of light-stable olive-yellow to gold shades depending on the mordants. Similar colors were obtained with quercitron bark (Quercus discolor, Fagaceae) of the USA. [Pg.8]

Morin is 2-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3,5,7-trihydroxy-4H-l-benzopyran-4-one (also, 2, 3,4, 5,7-pentahydroxyflavone) it is a flavonoid (flavonol) compound and is the principal component of so-called old fustic , a dye derived from Madura tinctoria (L.) Steudel (Moraceae formerly Chlorophora tinctoria (L.) Gaud.) (Schweppe, 1992 Merck Index, 1996). Use of old fustic in pigments has been mentioned by Harley (1982). Morin is hsted in the Colour Index as Cl 75660/Natural YeUow 8 and 11. [Pg.267]

Yoimg fustic is a yellow flavonoid dyestuff derived from the plant Cotinus coggygria (formerly lUius cotinus L.) where the principal colouring matter is the flavonoid compound fisetin ( -v.) as well as fustiu. It should not be confused with old fustic, which is a yellow dye derived from Chlorophora tinctoria Gard. [Pg.402]
