Chlor benzoic acids

Indapamide Indapamide, 4-chloro-N-(2-methyl-l-indolinyl)-3-sulfamoylbenzamide (21.3.33), is synthesized from 2-methylendoline, the nitrosation of which gives 2-methyl-1-nitrosoindoline (21.3.31). Reducing this with lithium aluminum hydride leads to formation of l-amino-2-methylendoline (21.3.32). Acylating this with 3-sulfonylamino-4-chlor-benzoic acid chloride leads to (21.3.33) [53,54].

A solution of 2o, 3o, 16o, 17o -diepoxy-17/3-acetoxy-5o -androstane (25 grams), prepared from 3,17-diacetoxy-5o -androstane-2,16-diene Chem. Abs. 1960, 54, 8908) by treatment with m-chlor-per-benzoic acid, in piperidine (120 ml) and water (40 ml) was boiled under reflux for 5 days, the solution was concentrated and the product precipitated by the addition of water. Benzamide.—The amide of benzoic acid is formed by the reaction given above and also by the action of chlor formamide on benzene. 

Naphthalene to Anthranilic Acid.—Such a cheap source was found in naphthalene which was converted into anthranilic acid, orthoamino benzoic acid, and this by treatment with chlor acetic acid yields phenyl glycine ortho-carboxylic acid. The complete synthesis is as follows Naphthalene is oxidized to or// o-phthalic acid which then yields phthalic anhydride. This with ammonia, as ammonium carbonate, yields phthalimide or phthalamidic acid.
