Chemists in Societies of Naturalists

A relatively large number of chemists were members of the Polskie Towarzystwo Przyrodnikow im. Kopernika (Copernicus Memorial Polish Society of [Pg.239]

Naturalists), founded in Lemberg in 1875. The founding fathers of the society were eight professors of Lemberg universities, including three chemists. By the end of the same year, membership of the society had risen to 133. The number kept growing in subsequent years and a branch of the society was formed in Cracow in 1890. Just before the First World War the society numbered 392 members, of whom chemists accounted for approximately 25%. [Pg.240]
