Chemical technology shift

If one of two equilibrating diastereomers crystallizes out of solution, shifting the equilibrium in one direction, the process is referred to as an asymmetric transformation of the second kind lUPAC Compendium of Chemical Technology, 2nd Edition, Mc-Naught, A. D., Wilkinson, A., Eds. Blackwell Science, 1997. [Pg.330]

Diphenyl carbonate is an important intermediate in the production of bisphenol-A-polycarbonate (BPA-PC). The technology shift from phosgene to DPC to produce BPA-PC on a commercial scale also allows the number of applications of this type of polymer to be increased for example, high-performance BPA-PCs utilized for information storage (e.g., DVDs) are prepared from high-purity DPC. The chemical route to this DPC brand is based on a two-step reaction, namely transesterification followed by disproportionation (Equations 7.4 and 7.5). [Pg.172]

Introduction.—There have been several reviews of the chemical technology of titanium and its compounds.1-30 The organometallic4 and structural40 chemistry of titanium reported during 1972 has been reviewed as have some aspects of its synthetic chemistry.5 According to ab initio calculations the Ti—C bond in TiCO and TiCO+ can be described as a CO non-bonding pair that is shifted slightly onto the Ti and a shift of Ti 3d n-orbitals back onto the CO.b... [Pg.1]

Clearly, the number of chemicals produced from coal-derived synthesis gas can expand as new technologies are developed and favorable economics exist. The most likely such chemicals are those for which processes have been demonstrated but which presently are uneconomic. Relatively small improvements in technology, shifts in feedstock availability and/or... [Pg.902]

Studies of catalyzed reactions of CO and CO2 with hydrogen to produce hydrocarbons have had a profound effect on the chemical research and chemical technology (1,2,3). As a result of coal gasification (coal + H2O CO + H2), CO and H2 are produced and may be used as feedstock or as a fuel (water gas). Through the use of the water shift reaction (CO + H2O CO2 + H2), the CO-H2 mixture can be en-... [Pg.65]

The price of butanes and butylenes fluctuates seasonally depending on the demand for gasoline ia the United States. Siace much chemical-product usage is determiaed by price—performance basis, a shift to development of butylene-based technology may occur. Among the butylenes, demand for isobutylene is likely to iacrease (and so its price) as more derivatives such as methyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid are produced from isobutylene iastead of the coaveatioaal acetoae cyanohydria process. [Pg.371]
