Chelation mixed-metal complexation

Preparation and Characterization of Heteronuclear Chelates. Once it was established that the two sites in SchiflF-base derivatives of 1,3,5-triketones may specifically coordinate diflFerent metal ions, it became feasible to prepare pure mixed metal complexes in which the position of the two metal ions is known. As a matter of preparative convenience in the early stages of this work, we chose to use Ni[H2(BAA)2en] as a ligand to bind a diflFerent metal ion which has a preference for the available oxygen donor site (Reaction 2). The major rationale for using the... [Pg.415]

These equations show the general theoretical basis for the empirical order of rate constants given earlier for electrophilic attack on an aromatic ligand L, its metal complex ML, and its protonated form HL, one finds kt > n > hl. Conflicting reports in the literature state that coordination can both accelerate electrophilic aromatic substitution (30) and slow it down enormously (2). In the first case the rates of nitration of the diprotonated form of 0-phenanthroline and its Co(III) and Fe(III) complexes were compared. Here coordination prevents protonation in the mixed acid medium used for nitration and kML > h2l. In the second case the phenolate form of 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid and its metal chelates were compared. The complexes underwent iodination much more slowly, if at all, and kL > kML ... [Pg.160]

The reaction of hexacyanometalates with metal complexes chelated by penta-dentate ligands may afford polynuclear complexes. The presence of the penta-dentate ligand precludes the polymerization that leads to extended systems. The preparation of a representative heptanuclear, mixed-valance iron complex, [Fe (CNFe° (salmeten))6]Cl2 6H20, is detailed herein. [Pg.141]

As far as dyes are concerned, chelates of type Cb are termed 1 2 or symmetrical 1 2 metal complexes if the two tridentate ligands are equal, and mixed or unsymmetrical 1 2 metal complexes in the other case. Chelates of type Bb represent 1 1 metal complexes. The types Cb and Bb include, in general, azo and azo-methine metal complex dyes, whereas chelates of the quadridentate types Ac and Be are derived predominantly from formazan and phthalocyanine chromophores. [Pg.92]
