De Vente, J. and Steinbusch, H. W. M. (1992) On the stimulation of soluble and particulate guanylate cyclase in the rat brain and the involvement of nitric oxide as studied by cGMP-immunocytochemistry. Acta Histochem. 92, 13—38. [Pg.140]

Only a few control experiments are possible in immunocytochemistry. One is the application of a preimmune serum or a nonimmune serum, which should fail to give the desired staining reaction. Another control is an absorption or immuno-inhibition test. As discussed under Note 9, it is desirable that this absorption is done with the antigen fixed to a protein that is different from the carrier protein used for immunization. This procedure attempts to mimic conditions encountered m the tissue (which, unfortunately, cannot be known with certainty). Nevertheless, the protein environment of cGMP m the tissue or cells after formaldehyde... [Pg.135]

Cyclic GMP and cyclic AMP were localised at the ultrastructural level using horseradish peroxidase immunocytochemistry (Ariano and Matus 1981). In the rat caudate-putamen both of the cyclic nucleotides were detected within postsynaptic terminal boutons and within astroglial processes. cGMP postsynaptic staining was stronger than glial staining, whereas the localisation pattern was reversed for cAMP. [Pg.515]
