Cerium reactions with thallium

The action of n-butyllithium in THF at low temperature leads to the anion. Titration Indicators. Concentrations of arsenic(III) as low as 2 x 10 M can be measured (272) by titration with iodine, using the chemiluminescent iodine oxidation of luminol to indicate the end point. Oxidation reactions have been titrated using siloxene the appearance of chemiluminescence indicates excess oxidant. Examples include titration of thallium (277) and lead (278) with dichromate and analysis of iron(II) by titration with cerium(IV) (279). 

However, in regard to the reactions of tungsten with metallic elements, the situation is quite different. A large number of metals exist which fail to react with tungsten, like the alkali metals, the alkaline earth metals with the exception of beryllium, the rare earth metals with the exception of cerium, and especially the elements scandium, yttrium, lanfiianiun, copper, silver, gold, zinc, cadmium, mercury, indium, thallium, tin, lead, antimony, bismuth, and polonium. 

We have established by additional unpublished research that 2-propanol increases G(Ce ) from 2Gh202 Gh — Goh to 2GH2O2 Gh + G0h- This effect of isopropyl alcohol is consistent with a reaction mechanism which is similar to that proposed for the effects of thallium (I) (24) and formic acid (26, 27) on G(Cem). The OH radical reacts with isopropyl alcohol to yield an intermediate which reduces cerium (IV) ...
