DR5 (Dumitru and Gulbins, 2006) or CFTR (Pier et al., 1996) or signaling molecules such as NADPH-oxidase (Zhang et al., 2001,2003), caspase 8 (Eramo et al., 2004) or Kvl.3 (Bock et al., 2003) to name a few, are concentrated and clustered within ceramide-enriched membrane domains, a process that is critically required for signal transduction via these molecules.
