In traditional areas such as ceramic tiles, praseodymium oxide in a zirconium silicate matrix is used as a yellow stain. Cerium oxide is used as an opacifier or to give esthetic effects in the glaze. Other pigment colours, such as orange with yttrium oxide and light purple with neodymium oxide can be prepared. The compositions of these pigments are given in Table 12.19. [Pg.932]

The floor of the storage site should be made of sealed cement, glazed ceramic tile, no-wax sheet flooring, or another easily cleaned material. Carpeting, wood, soil, and other absorbent floors are difficnlt or impossible to decontaminate in case of a leak or spill. For ease of cleannp, shelving and pallets should be made of nonabsorbent materials snch as plastic or metal. If wood or fiberboard materials are nsed, they should be coated or covered with plastic or polyurethane or epoxy paint. [Pg.263]

If the surface on which the pesticide has spilled is nonporous, such as sealed concrete, glazed ceramic tile, or no-wax sheet flooring, use water (or the... [Pg.279]

Extra-dnty Glazed Hie. US term for a ceramic tile with a glaze that is sufficiently durable for light-duty floors and all other surfaces inside buildings provided that there is no serious abrasion or impact. [Pg.112]

Mottling. (1) A form of decoration applied to vitreous enamelware, to glazed ceramic tiles, and to some studio pottery. For tiles the effect is produced by hand, with a sponge, or by a rubber roller. [Pg.209]

Spacer Lug. One of the projections on the edge of a glazed ceramic tile or paving brick ensuring correct width of joint for sizes see BS 6431 and ASTM -C7, respectively. [Pg.303]

During the past 5 years, standards that may be used to calibrate reflec-tometer systems indirectly in reflectance mode have been developed. All these standards incorporate stable rare earth oxides, either as powders or as the oxides protected by a matrix of ceramic or polymer. The initial standard of this type was produced by NIST under the designation SRM-1920. The standard was a mixture of holmium, erbium, and dysprosium oxide in a quartz-covered powder cell and was meant for usage in the near-IR only. J. Verrill at NPL has produced a holmium oxide-doped glazed ceramic tile for use as a standard. This material suffers from some peak broadening and shifting, likely due to the high temperature of process of the ceramic. [Pg.263]

The basic classes of ceramic tiles, as defined by the Tile Council of America, are Wall Tiles, Glazed Floor Tiles, Unglazed Floor Tiles and Ceramic Mosaic Tile. The minerals used in the manufacture of ceramic tiles exhibit the entire range of properties and usefulness that exemplify the reasons for their use in almost all fields of ceramics. [Pg.464]

Ceramics. In ceramics, talc is widely used in wall tile and hobbyware bodies, in electrical porcelains, and in cordierite formulations. Wall tile and hobbyware ate talc—clay bodies that ate pressed and fast-fired to a high porosity (bisque) and then glazed and tefired to produce the final product. Talc containing tremolite and carbonate is preferred to ensure good porosity. [Pg.302]
