Dinuclear complexes with Schiff base ligands, such as BSP, BCSP, and 5-Br-Salpn, have been synthesized from the reaction of Mn(OAc)3 and the ligand in methanol. A representative structure is shown for the cation in [Mn2(BCSP)(0Ac)2](C104)-CH30H (96). [Pg.42]

When the chain length is dramatically increased, as in (28), podands are available which could imitate the helical ion channels believed to be available in membranes and so give information on the selective transfer of cations across such barriers.
