No natural mbber is foimd in the soil of Hevea plantations so it is believed that NR is biodegradable. However, it can be preserved under suitable conditions. Native Mesoamericans made rubber balls from Castilla elastica (see Figure 4.24 in Experiments) latex mixed with the juice of morning glory that crosslinked the polymer chains. [Pg.112]
