Carotenoids analysis precautions

The only technique that is of major interest for carotenoid analysis is LC. Selected applications to biological samples are presented in Table 2. These methods are mostly satisfactory in terms of selectivity and sensitivity. However, accurate quantification requires precautions because of relative lability of the analytes during sample preparation, their incomplete recovery from LC columns, and the limitations of the available internal standards. [Pg.4907]

The characteristic system of conjugated double bonds in the carotenoid molecule in which the Tt electrons are delocahzed over the whole polyene chain is responsible for both absorption of visible light and chemical reactivity, resulting in unstable and easily destroyed compounds. Based on this information, the following precautions must be taken during analysis ... [Pg.449]

Due to the health-promoting properties associated with the consumption of carotenoids, the analysis of these compounds in plasma, serum, and tissues has become important. The same precautions used when extracting carotenoids from foods must also be employed here to minimize isomerization, oxidation, and degradation. [Pg.109]
