Carboxidation of Polyethylene

this idea was tested [179] with a linear polyethylene (PE). The material had a low molecular weight (M = 960, M /M = 1.7) and relatively high concentration of terminal C=C bonds (12 bonds per 1000 carbon atoms). 

As in the case of alkenes, the carboxidation of PE may also include the cleavage of C=C bond. However, the decrease of PE macromolecule by one carbon atom does not
