Carboranyl alcohol

The carboranyl alcohol can also be prepared from the stannyl carborane and an aldehyde using Pd2(dba)3-CHCl3/dppe. The carborane is stable to Brpnsted and Lewis acids and to LiAlH.. 

Compatibility of functional groups in the titanium-mediated allylation of aldehydes is illustrated in the following equations. For example, allylation of aldehydes can be performed in the presence of carboranyl alcohol (Eq. 50) [168], ester and peroxide moieties (Eq. 51) [169], and dibromocyclopropane (Eq. 52) [170]. The last example shows that sterically hindered aldehydes can be allylated by this method.
