Thiazides Carbenoxolone

Thiazide drugs have additive potassium-lowering effects with other drugs that reduce serum potassium, such as corticosteroids and carbenoxolone. Profound hypokalemia due to the latter combination has been reported to cause massive rhabdomyolysis and acute tubular necrosis (49). [Pg.3379]

Carbenoxolone causes fluid retention and raises blood pressure in some patients. This may be expected to oppose the effects of antihypertensive drugs. The potassium-depleting effects of carbenoxolone and diuretics such as the thiazides or loop diuretics can be additive. Spironolactone or amiloride can oppose the ulcer-healing effects of carbenoxolone. [Pg.962]
